DESCRIPTION:Golden-cheeked warbler (GCW) (Setophaga chrysoparia) point count surveys will be conducted at six survey sites in the Southernmost Edwards Plateau\, which is designated an Important Bird Area (IBA) by the National Audubon Society. Sites include Maverick Ranch\, Friedrich Wilderness Park\, Government Canyon State Natural Area\, Eisenhower Park\, Bracken Cave Preserve\, and Albert and Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area. Surveyors are needed to help with the point counts five times between March 15 and June 15.

DESCRIPTION:Canyon Lake Madrone Trail\nMonday | February 13 | 8:30 AM\nLeader: Lynn Thompson (LThompson54@satx.rr.com)\nDescription: Join Comal County Birder Lynn Thompson on Monday\, Feb. 13 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM for a bird walk at Canyon Lake. We will meet at the Brookshire Brothers store\, 18275 FM 306\, Canyon Lake\, TX 78133 at 8:30 AM. This will be a good restroom stop before we start. We will drive to the nearby Madrone Trail (1.2 miles down Canyon Park Rd.) for a leisurely hike on the trail. Expect a rocky path\, similar to the area hiked at the Canyon Lake Gorge. There is a new irrigated pollinator garden planted by the local Master Naturalist chapter\, which is eventually supposed to have a bird blind. Proceeding down the path\, we’ll be able to scan Canyon Lake for waterfowl. There are Port-a-Potties at the beginning of the trail. Bring snacks and water. After the walk\, we can lunch at Brookshire Brothers\, which has a deli where you can get a sandwich or hot meal. Walk is limited to 15. DESCRIPTION:Canyon Lake Birding and Guided Tour of Canyon Lake Gorge\nSunday | December 11 | 8:00 AM for Birding | 11:30 AM for Gorge Tour | 1:30 PM for Lunch\nDescription: Birds\, Geology\, and LUNCH: a perfect Sunday morning in December! \nCome explore the birding trails at Canyon Lake Dam and Guadalupe River Trail (eBird HOTE 073)\, hike Canyon Lake Gorge with a guide\, and stay for lunch. We are limiting the outing to 15 people. \nBirding from 8:00 to 10:30 or so will be led by local birders who know the area and the local birds. We will provide details about where to meet once everyone has signed up. Bring water and a hiking stick if you have one. \nCanyon Lake Gorge was created by the Guadalupe River flood in 2002. Staying for lunch is optional; everyone will pay their own check.
