This presentation will introduce this challenging issue and why it matters to bird conservation\, focusing on what we’ve learned through research and monitoring efforts. DESCRIPTION:Canyon Lake Madrone Trail\nMonday | February 13 | 8:30 AM\nLeader: Lynn Thompson (LThompson54@satx.rr.com)\nDescription: Join Comal County Birder Lynn Thompson on Monday\, Feb. 13 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM for a bird walk at Canyon Lake. We will meet at the Brookshire Brothers store\, 18275 FM 306\, Canyon Lake\, TX 78133 at 8:30 AM. This will be a good restroom stop before we start. We will drive to the nearby Madrone Trail (1.2 miles down Canyon Park Rd.) for a leisurely hike on the trail. Expect a rocky path\, similar to the area hiked at the Canyon Lake Gorge. There is a new irrigated pollinator garden planted by the local Master Naturalist chapter\, which is eventually supposed to have a bird blind. Proceeding down the path\, we’ll be able to scan Canyon Lake for waterfowl. There are Port-a-Potties at the beginning of the trail. Bring snacks and water. After the walk\, we can lunch at Brookshire Brothers\, which has a deli where you can get a sandwich or hot meal. Walk is limited to 15. DESCRIPTION:Leading a bird walk is one of the best ways to share your passion for birds with others.  Everyone who leads their first bird walk feels unqualified. You can lead a successful bird walk even if you are not an expert birder. Identifying birds is only one part of having a bird walk that’s fun and educational for everyone. It also requires good social skills and the ability to make adjustments based on the needs of the group. BAS members Patsy Inglet and Sherie Gee will offer an in-person workshop in the Friedrich Wilderness Park classroom\, followed by a walk on the trails. \nThe workshop is limited to 20 participants. DESCRIPTION:Kreutzberg Canyon State Natural Area\nFriday\, June 10 | 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM\nKreutzberg Canyon is a 117-acre natural area located along the Guadalupe River\, featuring three miles of multi-use trails. We can visit the three wildlife observation blinds equipped with identification books and camera ports. This trip is limited to 15 people\, including the leader.  Directions: From Boerne\, take Blanco St/FM 474\, stay on FM 474 and take a right on Kruetzberg Road.  Then a left on Mark Twain.  Park entrance will be on your right.  We will meet leader Ken Butler in the main parking lot. This is a city park with 0.75 miles of concrete trails surrounding the quarry pond and approximately one mile of dirt trails winding through the woods. The park is named after Thomas Baker Slick\, Jr.\, founder of Southwest Research Institute. He was known to be San Antonio’s most famous cryptozoologist.
