DESCRIPTION:Guadalupe River State Park in Comal County\n3350 Park Rd 31\nSpring Branch\, Texas 78070\nFriday\, June 16 | 8:00 AM– 10:30 AM\nPlease meet in the parking lot just inside the entry gate no later than 8:00 AM.  Entrance fee is $7.00 per person.  If you have a Texas State Park Pass\, your entry fee is covered. If you are 65 or older and are a Texas resident\, you qualify for the Senior Partial passport.  With this pass\, you and a companion pay 50 percent off the entry fee.  There are restrooms available on site and two bird blinds. \nIn this scenic area\, birders may see the Golden-cheeked Warbler and the spectacular Painted Bunting\, among other great Hill Country birds. \nThis bird walk is limited to 12 people.  Those who sign up will be put in contact with leader Lucy Spade.  Sign up here.

SUMMARY:BAS Monthly Meeting: Microplastics and Crested Caracaras
DESCRIPTION:UTSA graduate student Alexis Baum will present a program in person about microplastics (<5mm)\, an emerging threat that has deleterious impacts on wildlife and biodiversity. However\, little research has examined the exposure of terrestrial birds to microplastics\, and it is unknown how urbanization relates. This study aims to investigate terrestrial birds’ exposure to microplastics by examining gastrointestinal contents and the correlation between ecological traits such as foraging type and microplastic loads. We also will compare microplastic exposure of terrestrial birds across an urban gradient using Crested Caracaras (Caracara plancus) as a model system. \nWe will meet in person at Alamo Colleges District\, 2222 N. Alamo Street\, or you can watch from home via Zoom.
