The Bexar Audubon South Central Texas Community Mini-grant Program

This program provides grants up to $1500 for for community-facing, conservation-related projects that positively impacts birds.

Past projects have provided pollinator gardens, nest boxes, watering features, school education programs, bird blinds, binoculars or other tools for bringing people to birds, art that educates including children’s books about birds, and much more.   

Participants have come from schools, HOAs, PTAs, nonprofits, NGOs, and religious organizations - basically, any civic-minded group that embraces the importance of nature and has a platform for sharing their passion on a public scale.  The program is open ended. 

Below are the requirements for the program.

  • Projects must involve the area served by BASCTX (Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson counties)
  • Projects will have an educational component or focus on public property
  • Projects will include an explanation of the community engagement component
  • Grant applicant(s) will serve as project manager and be responsible for grant reporting of specified information
  • Projects may be a new one-year project, or part of a larger and/or longer-term project. However, this program will only fund a specific effort that may be completed within a twelve-month period
  • Mini-grant funding may be combined with other private or public funds.

Assessment criteria include: 

  • Number of people exposed to projects
  • Helping underserved communities 
  • Educational benefit 
  • Impact on birds or other natural elements 
  • Creativity 
  • Feasibility

Eligible counties are Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson.
