The Bexar Audubon South Central Texas Community Mini-grant Program
This program provides grants from $100-$1000 for community projects in our 10-county region that further the goals of Bird City Texas. The goal is to encourage people to protect birds and their habitats while increasing public awareness of the benefits of bird conservation with “hands in dirt” projects.
Past projects have provided pollinator gardens, nest boxes, watering features, school education programs, bird blinds, binoculars or other tools for bringing people to birds, art that educates including children’s books about birds, and much more.
Participants have come from schools, HOAs, PTAs, nonprofits, NGOs, and religious organizations - basically, any civic-minded group that embraces the importance of nature and has a platform for sharing their passion on a public scale. The program is open ended.
Assessment criteria include:
- Number of people exposed to projects
- Helping underserved communities
- Educational benefit
- Impact on birds or other natural elements
